First Lady Mary Pat Christie Announces Twenty-Five Recipients of the 2015 Spirit of a Hero Scholarship - 6/2/15

Posted on June 02, 2015

Today I announced the 25 very deserving recipients of the third annual Spirit of a Hero Scholarship. This $5,000 award has been given every year to students who have demonstrated a real commitment to community service and volunteerism in their communities. Since its launch in 2013, NJ Heroes has awarded $335,000 in scholarship funding to 67 students from across the state through the Spirit of a Hero program. As with every year before them, this year’s recipients have given back to their communities in extraordinary ways. I was so happy to celebrate their achievements with them.

When the Spirit of a Hero Scholarship launched we awarded 20 students. However, as we have grown, we have been lucky enough to raise the number of scholarships to 25 this year! The 25 recipients were able to bring family members and a mentor to Drumthwacket to share this special day with them. The students were then called up to the stage one by one and honored for their outstanding community service. From human trafficking and environmental stewardship to STEM education and programs for individuals with special needs, all of our applicants and awardees are doing outstanding work to give back and help improve the lives of others. It is so inspiring to see what these young men and women have been able to accomplish at such a young age.

Congratulations to all of our recipients!
