Dave Scott – Market Street Mission - 12/2/15
Today the Governor joined me at the Market Street Mission in Morristown as I named Dave Scott, the Executive Director of the Mission, my 39th New Jersey Hero!
The Market Street Mission (MSM) has been helping people in need throughout Morris County since 1889. The Mission assists individuals to overcome homelessness, addiction, and poverty through a life centered on Christ. Physical needs of the clients are met with food, shelter, clothing, and other necessities, and emotional and spiritual needs are met with guidance and Life Change programs. I had the opportunity to sit down with some of the gentlemen who are participants in the Life Change Program and the staff that supports them through their rehabilitation and recovery. It is so inspiring to see how these men have taken charge of their lives and are on the road to healthier and self-sufficient lives for themselves and their families. After talking with the men in the program, the Governor and I had the opportunity to serve them lunch from the kitchen. Especially during the holiday season, I think it is important to give back to our communities through volunteerism and service.
Dave has served as the Executive Director of the Market Street Mission since 1989. He has helped with the graduation of 45 men from this program in the past year alone, with over 1,000 men successfully completing this program since its inception. Under Dave’s direction, the Mission has been able to expand their reach across our state and provide the essential programs it has today.
Over the years, Dave and his staff have worked tirelessly to address the issues of homelessness and hunger in the community and have truly made a lasting impact in the lives of so many NJ residents. During this season of hope and giving, I am proud to name Dave Scott a New Jersey Hero. Congratulations again to Dave on being named my 8th NJ Hero of 2015. You are a real source of pride for our state. Thank you and keep up the great work!
