Jordyn Cascone – Jordyn’s Cause 4 Paws - 9/26/17

Posted on September 26, 2017

I am thrilled to announce  sixteen-year old Jordyn Cascone, founder of Jordyn’s Cause 4 Paws, as our  49th New Jersey Hero! Jordyn is the 4th Hero to be named in 2017, and I am excited to award someone who, at such a young age, has dedicated so much of her time to meeting the needs of the elderly homebound and their pets.

Jordyn founded Jordyn’s Cause 4 Paws to provide food for the pets of the homebound in Mercer County. She realized that many homebound individuals who were recipients of Meals on Wheels gave their meals away to their pets, as some did not have the luxury to buy pet food for their animals.

After identifying this need, Jordyn partnered with Meals on Wheels and has delivered over 50,000 pet food meals since September 2014 and spends nearly $8,000 a year on maintaining food. Every week, the organization provides food for dogs, cats, birds and fish. It spreads awareness and solicits donations through various fundraisers such as car washes and bake sales. The organization uses specific questionnaires to ensure that these meals are tailored to the dietary needs of each individual recipient and their pet.

Jordyn is actively making efforts to expand her organization. She plans to meet with other Girl Scout troops from Central and South Jersey to present Jordyn’s Cause 4 Paws in the hopes that it will spread throughout New Jersey. She also plans to meet with Meals on Wheels of America to try to expand nationwide.

I commend Jordyn for her hard work, and for helping the homebound and their companions. It is so inspiring to see someone at such a young age take action in the community and effectively change the lives of so many people. Mercer County and all of New Jersey are fortunate to have Jordyn doing this great work.
